Indeed, mourning is only prayer and praying for the 'People of the Grave' and not making burdensome traditions for the 'People of the Family' that are burdensome. Gathering and praying together is better than having a large 'banquet' and the family member left behind is in a state of grief. Indeed you should only console him with him and not by burdening him with 3, 7, 21, 40, 100 (days). So if you are grieving, and you give zakaah or charity to the family of the deceased, that is better than you burdening them with time and a big feast. Ulaa'ika âalaa hudammirrabbihim wa ulaa'ika humul-muflihuun Aameen, yaa Allah, yaa Rabb, yaa Sami', yaa Bashir, Alhamdulillah
